The American Pie Council (APC), Lake Forest, Ill., announced the commercial bakery winners from the 15th Annual APC/Crisco® National Pie Championships, held April 24-26, 2009, in conjunction with the APC Great American Pie Festival, also sponsored by Crisco.
Judging was held at the Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort and Convention Center, Celebration, Fla. More than 100 judges evalutated pies in 130 plus categories, based on flavor, wholesale cost and size of pie.
Commercial pie categories included apple, blueberry, fruit/berry, open cream, citrus, open, nut, chocolate and raisin, sponsored by the California Raisin Marketing Board. Not only did winners take home a prestigious title, but winning an award at the National Pie Championships has been proven to increase market share of that product.
This year's top commercial winners included Bakers Square Restaurants, Bonert's Slice of Pie, Jessie Lord Bakery LLC, Cyrus O'Leary's Pies, J. Horner's, Michele's Pies, Hill and Valley Inc., The Schwan Food Co., Rocky Mountain Pies, Harlan Bakeries, Kroger's Private Selection, Lake Geneva Pie Co. and Sweetie-licious Pie Pantry, among others.
