The company filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division.
“Let me underscore that this was an exceptionally difficult decision for us to make,” Tom Awrey, Awrey Bakeries’ president, said. “After exploring other alternatives, however, we concluded that a court-protected reorganization is the best option for the company to address its financial challenges.”
Awrey Bakeries was founded in 1910 and is in its fourth generation of family ownership. The company manufactures an extensive line of sweet goods.
