Main Street Gourmet, Akron, Ohio, received the first annual Wellness@Work Award from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and its partner, the Cleveland Clinic. The award honors companies that have demonstrated and promoted excellence in workplace wellness and community involvement. Main Street won in the 101 to 250 employee category. The company's heath and wellness committee designed and created programs to encourage employees to live a healthful lifestyle, including a healthy lunch program, exercise equipment for employees to use, free stop-smoking seminars and free employee immunization clinics.
Belgium-based CIAA, the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU, introduced a new version of its Acrylamide Toolbox, which includes a chapter on asparaginase, as well as key applications where this enzyme can provide acrylamide-reducing benefits. This addition reflects the growing recognition of asparaginase as a method of preventing acrylamide formation, helps manufacturers understand acrylamide formation and assess solutions.
Costanzo's Bakery Inc., Cheektowaga, N.Y., is working with the Erie County Industrial Development Agency to finance a 64,000-sq.-ft. addition to its Cheektowaga plant and renovate 3,600 sq. ft. of its Innsbruck Drive facility. The project is estimated to cost about $3.75 million. The bakery, which currently employs 90 full-time and 23 part-time workers, expects to hire more employees as a result of the expansion.
Flowers Bakeries' most well-known brands including Nature's Own, Cobblestone Mill and Mi Casa, are featured in a new cookbook entitled Back of the Box Cooking: 500 Delicious Easy-to-Prepare Recipes from America's Best Loved Brands, by Barbara Greenman. The cookbook contains 20 recipes using Flowers Bakeries' fresh breads, rolls and tortillas.
Hudson, Ohio-based Rademaker USA is celebrating its 25th anniversary as an industrial baking and food processing equipment supplier for the industrial baking market in the United States and Canada. The company began in 1984 as a one-room sales office and has grown into a 16,000 sq.-ft.-facility outside of Cleveland. Rademaker USA houses all sales and service functions for the American and Canadian market to include a small pilot line, an extensive offering of spare parts, 24-hour service and after-sales support and five full-time field service technicians. Rademaker's parent company, Rademaker BV, is located in the Netherlands.
Fleischmann's Yeast and Innovative Cereal Systems, both parts of AB Mauri Food Inc., will align under the new corporate banner AB Mauri Fleischmann's, effective Sept. 1, 2009. The complete portfolio includes Fleischmann's Yeast products, AB Mauri Bakery Ingredients and ICS enzyme-based technologies.
