The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) held its annual meeting and food expo July 17-20 at McCormick Place in Chicago. For the first time, IFT was joined by the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA), which held its Process Expo simultaneously.

|More than 21,000 people attended this year’s IFT Food Expo.||More than 1,000 companies exhibited in more than 2,100 booths, resulting in a sold-out exhibition space.|
|Next year’s expo will be held June 11-14 in New Orleans at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center.||The first half of 2010 showed an increase in new product introductions, up 15 percent over the last half of 2009, reported Lynn Dornblaser of market research firm Mintel.|
|More than 1,900 scientific and technical presentations took place during the three-day event, featuring topics as diverse as coffee, food allergens and the Gulf oil spill.||The first U.S. conference dedicated to food technology took place in 1937 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. IFT was created two years later and now has more than 18,000 members worldwide.|
