Interstate Bakeries Corp. (IBC), baker of Twinkies and Wonder bread, is moving its corporate headquarters from Kansas City to Dallas. The move brings the company many benefits, including cost savings and access to more senior-level executives with experience in marketing packaged products to consumers. In the move, about 20 positions, including senior executives and executive assistants, will leave Kansas City, where the company was founded in 1930. The company expects to maintain about 200 full-time employees-the same number currently at its Kansas City facility-by hiring more employees now that a longtime hiring freeze has been lifted. IBC emerged from four and a half years of Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month. Before it filed for bankruptcy in 2004, the company reportedly was the largest wholesale baking company in the United States. IBC currently is owned by Ripplewood holdings, which acquired the company for $130 million.
