Wonder® bread is partnering with the United Service Organization (USO) for the 2012 Wonder Bread Heroes program, which honors Americans making a difference in their communities.
From April 25 through June 8, entrants can visit www.wonderbreadheroes.com to nominate family members, friends, coworkers or neighbors for the chance to win a $50,000 donation to the USO in that person’s name. The winner can donate to one of four USO programs: United Through Reading's Military Program, Operation Phone Home, Sesame Street/USO Experience Tour or the With You All the Way program. The Wonder Bread Hero winner also will receive $2,500 and a year's supply of Wonder bread.
Two additional American heroes will receive honorable mentions, along with $1,000 each and a year's supply of Wonder bread. The Wonder Bread Hero winners will be announced on July 4, Independence Day.
"The USO and Wonder bread are two great American classics," Tameika Miller, Wonder brand manager, said in a press release. "For more than 70 years, the USO has been making a difference in the lives of our American troops and their families. And for more than 90 years, Wonder bread has been a staple in American households and a family favorite. The Wonder Bread Heroes campaign gives us a chance to honor Americans making a difference in the lives of those around them while supporting the USO's mission and the creative programs it offers."
In addition to visiting the Wonder Bread Heroes website, limited-edition, star-spangled packages of Wonder buns contain details about the program. The dedicated packaging features the "Proud Supporter of the USO" emblem and is available during the spring and summer at participating supermarkets.
Wonder also is teaming with the USO to support Ride2Recovery (R2R), which helps rehabilitate wounded and disabled veterans through cycling activities.. Wonder is donating bread for sandwiches at four R2R races taking place in different regions of the country throughout 2012.
