Anne Freeman has been decorating for the Ames, Iowa, Hy-Vee store for 10 years. After obtaining a degree in architecture, she decided to use her “construction” skills on cakes instead of buildings. Completely self-taught, Freeman learns new techniques from the decorating books she avidly reads as well as watching the many decorating shows on television. She regularly participates in competitions, including Hy-Vee’s own cake challenge as well as national competitions, such as the International Dairy-Deli- Bakery Association’s Cake Decorating Challenge.
