The Upper Midwest Bakery Association (UMBA) will host the 3rd annual Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. on Sunday, Oct. 25. This year's competition will feature two categories: wedding cake and Halloween. The winner of the wedding cake category will be awarded $1,000 while the Halloween prize is a five-day class at Julie Bashore's School of Cake Decorating and Confectionary Art. Second and third place in each category will also be awarded cash and prizes.
Decorators will be required to incorporate the themes, My Favorite Halloween Monster and My Fantasy Wedding Cake, into their designs. They will have 90 minutes to decorate a Halloween cake, which must comprise two sheet cakes and have a minimum of 48 servings. For the wedding cake competition, each decorator will be allowed one assistant and must complete a five-tier or larger cake in 2 1/2 hours.
The event also will feature an area where children can decorate a cupcake to take home.
The Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition is sponsored by the UMBA and its vendor partners: General Mills, Dawn Food Products, H.C. Brill, Bakery Crafts and Best Brands.
Cake decorators can download a registration form at uppermidwestbakery.net.
