UMBA issues decorating challenge
The Upper Midwest Bakery Association (UMBA) will host the 3rd annual Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. on Sunday, Oct. 25. This year’s competition will feature two categories: wedding cake and Halloween. The winner of the wedding cake category will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize, while the winner of the Halloween competition will win a five-day class at Julie Bashore’s School of Cake Decorating and Confectionary Art. Second and third place in each category will also be awarded cash and prizes.
Decorators will be required to incorporate the themes, My Favorite Halloween Monster and My Fantasy Wedding Cake respectively, into their designs. Competitors will have 90 minutes to complete a two-sheet cake with a minimum of 48 servings for the Halloween contest. For the wedding cake competition, each decorator will be allowed the use of one assistant and must complete a five-tier or larger cake in 2 1/2 hours.
The event also will feature a children’s area where kids can decorate a cupcake to take home.
The Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition is sponsored by the UMBA and its vendor partners: General Mills, Dawn Food Products, H.C. Brill, Bakery Crafts and Best Brands.
