Dawn Food Products named the six winners of its Cupcake Decorating Contest, held at the supplier’s booth during the Atlantic Bakery Expo last month in Atlantic City, N.J. Approximately 250 participants competed during the two-day challenge, including professional bakers, decorators and student bakers representing retail bakeries, in-store bakeries and technical schools.
On day one, Michelle Weeks of Baker’s Treat took home first place with her hamburger design. Second place went to Leslie Serrano of It Is All About The Cake who created a cupcake made to look like an apple, complete with worm. Sharon Briseno of Cameron’s Bakery was the third place winner with her mini wedding cake creation.
Day two’s first place winner, Kristi Schetrompf of Cindy’s Sweets and Supplies Inc., won for her birdhouse design. Second place went to Adrienne Porcella of Herman’s Bakery Inc. and her bunny and basket cupcake. Jessica Wong of Dreamville Retro Bake Shop LLC took home third place with her shoe and purse design
Winners received prize packs that included baking accessories like cupcake pans, decorating tube sets, oven mitts, cupcake liners, spatulas and scrapers.
Dawn also has launched a blog for professional bakers, www.stirringupsuccess.com. The blog offers up-to-date information on trends, products and baking industry profiles. Stirring Up Success also features consumer research, ideas and insights, videos, trend reports and articles from industry guest bloggers.
“We are always looking for new ways to speak to our customers and share information with them,” Becky Loveland, director of marketing for Dawn Foods bakery distribution, said in a press release. “Getting our voice out into the social media sphere not only gives us the opportunity to share everything in real time, it allows us to hear what our customers have to say back and learn how to better serve them. We are excited to create a community where these conversations can take place.”
