French Pastry School, Jelly Belly replicate ‘the Bean’ for scholarship fund
Jelly Belly Candy Co. is teaming with the French Pastry School of Chicago to decorate a chocolate sculpture modeled after Chicago’s Cloud Gate Sculpture, known to locals as “the Bean.” The project will benefit French Pastry School’s For the Love of Chocolate Scholarship Foundation, which raises money to provide scholarships to students in specialized pastry arts programs.
French Pastry School will use more than 600 lbs. of Jelly Belly’s dark chocolate covered jellybeans to adorn the 10-ft. replica of the Millennium Park sculpture. French Pastry School is enlisting high school students participating in the nonprofit After School Matters' Culinary Program to help assemble the sculpture using approximately 250,000 chocolate-covered jellybeans, which will all be placed by hand.
The sculpture will be unveiled Feb. 25 at the For the Love of Chocolate annual gala event, which takes place this year at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago.
