Pain D'Avignon, a New York-based artisanal bread manufacturer, is expanding to a larger facility in August after the city lured it to stay by approving more than $1 million tax benefits, according to an article in Crain’s New York.

The 10-year-old bread maker is purchasing a 10,000-square-foot industrial building in Long Island City, Queens, that currently houses City Baking Corp., which will move to another building in Long Island City. The tax breaks were approved by the city's Industrial Development Agency.

Pain D'Avignon, which distributes bread to such hotels as the Waldorf Astoria and Mandarin Oriental as well as high-end restaurants like Le Cirque and Eleven Madison Park, currently leases a building in Long Island City. It employs 70 and generates about $6 million in revenues. The bakery opened its first retail location last year on the Lower East Side.
