Whole Foods to close Dallas baking facility

Whole Foods Market is closing a bakery facility in Dallas, a move that will eliminate 70 jobs., according to an article in The Statesman.

The Austin-based natural foods grocer said that production demands have outgrown what the 12-year-old equipment and building are able to accommodate. The production that had been done at the Dallas facility will be consolidated at a baking facility in Houston.

Whole Foods initially reported the plan to eliminate the jobs in a Jan. 5 letter to the Texas Workforce Commission. The facility will close by March 11, according to the letter.

The company is attempting to place the 70 employees whose jobs are being eliminated into other Dallas-area stores or the Houston baking facility.

"Even as we address the needs of our growing business, the wellness and success of our team members remains a top priority," the company said.
