The upcoming All Things Baking trade show in Houston will host the first-ever Cake & Baked Foods Extravaganza. Sponsored by Johnson Brothers Bakery Supply, the challenge is for attendees to bring completed products in one or all of the four categories. Prizes will be awarded in each category: First prize is $250 and second prize is a $100 gift certificate from Johnson Brothers Bakery Supply.
The categories are: buttercream sculpted cake (no dummy cake or fondant), kolache (six in any flavor), rosca de reyes (any flavor), and decorated cupcakes (6 to 12 in any flavor).
All items must be produced by a licensed bakery, cake shop, restaurant, wholesale facility or culinary school. Contestants may enter more than one entry per category and may enter multiple categories. Cakes must be original and cannot have been used in previous competitions.
Items will need to be brought in and placed on display by 2 p.m. on Sept. 9, and must remain in the competition area until the end of the convention on Sept. 11. A panel of professional judges will score all items. More information is available at www.allthingsbaking.org.
