Chicago’s Bleeding Heart Bakery has announced that it will close all of its remaining locations on Aug. 5, according to an article in the Suburban Life newspaper.
The nine-year-old bakery made the announcement via Facebook on July 27. It affects the last two remaining locations—in Elmhurst, Ill., and in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. The announcement does not impact the former West Town location in Chicago, which is reopened as West Town Bakery & Diner.
The Elmhurst location was open for only nine months. Its closing follows the shuttering of the bakery's Oak Park store, which occurred this spring when owners said it was losing customers to the Elmhurst location.
In follow-up Facebook posts, the owners said they chose not to sell" the bakeries, adding:
“Life changes... When we opened the new stores, we had every intention of keeping them open. But, as I am sure has happened to many of you, things changed. And we were offered an opportunity that feels like a very good fit for our passions, talents, and mostly, for our family.
“At this time, we do not wish to discuss what we are doing next. We ask that you respect that Bleeding Heart Bakery is closing, and a new chapter is beginning for the Garcias.”
