Megan Ketover, certified pastry culinarian (CPC) and pastry chef instructor at Bakery Hill, Midwest Culinary Institute, Cincinnati, was selected to compete in an upcoming Food Network Challenge, Cereal Bridges 2. Ketover was named ACF's Northeast regional pastry chef of the year in February.

Shirley Ryan Rose, longtime Modern Baking cake decorating editor, and Larry Powell, Ryan Rose's former student, were recognized April 25 during an awards banquet for the 2009 Washington State Cake and Confectionary Show, held at Little Creek Casino, Shelton, Wash. The Washington State Sugar Artists/ International Cake Exploration Societé (ICES) and Oregon ICES created the award to honor pioneers in the cake decorating and sugar arts industries. The Washington State Sugar Artists, a group of cake decorators, pastry chefs, and sugar and chocolate artists, host monthly meetings and sponsor an annual cake show.
