IDDBA names decorating contestants, releases Show & Sell Center details

The International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association (IDDBA), Madison, Wis., announced that Rose Adams, The Kroger Co., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Stephanie Dillon, Hy-Vee, Belton, Mo.; Jodi Schweiss, Schnuck Markets Inc., St. Louis; were chosen to participate in the 16th annual IDDBA Cake Decorating Challenge.

The competition will be held during the Dairy-Deli-Bake 2011 seminar and expo in Anaheim, Calif., June 5-7. The finalists receive an all-expense paid trip to the show, and they were chosen from 78 entrants from 21 supermarket chains.
The decorators will compete in three phases of the Challenge. On Sunday, each will decorate enough cakes to fill one multi-tiered, 8-ft. bakery case. On Monday, they will decorate a wedding cake and Tuesday is a special “Decorator’s Choice” theme event.

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at a beautiful cake and said ‘I wish I could do that!’” said Carol Christison, IDDBA executive director. “Well, I can’t. I have the desire but I don’t have the skill set. That’s why I’m always so impressed with the cake portfolios sent in by decorators from supermarkets all over. They have the talent. They have the skill set. They have the ability to ‘wow’ customers by making their special event memorable.

“That’s why the IDDBA Cake Decorating Challenge is so important. It allows creative cake artisans an opportunity to show off their incredible talents and to gain fame and recognition for themselves and their stores. The level of excellence and commitment shown in this competition is spectacular.”

Show & Sell themes

A highlight of the annual seminar and expo for over twenty years, the Show & Sell Center is a 10,000 sq. ft. model store filled with selling ideas and world-class displays created by our team of merchandisers. The event’s theme is Rock Star Food and will be held June 5-7 in Anaheim, CA.

Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” And that’s what the IDDBA Show & Sell Merchandisers do.

We seek out new ideas and products, create merchandising programs, and teach retailers how to use these concepts to sell more products and satisfy customers. We teach by example. From how-to instructions, to idea sheets, to photos of finished products, we’re there to show you how to do it yourself. Show & Sell is all about Teach & Tell.

The IDDBA’s Show & Sell Center focuses on four areas: meals, deli, cheese, and bakery. It’s put together by industry volunteers. Consumers choose the store they shop, the products they buy, the meals they cook (or don’t cook), and the money they spend. We can help consumers make good choices by sharing what we learn with them.

FREE PHOTO CD. If you stop by, you can sign up for a FREE photo CD (approximately 700 photos) that highlights the exciting displays and merchandising ideas. It’s FREE, but you have to sign up in person.

Be sure to check out the Show & Sell Center at IDDBA’s Dairy-Deli-Bake Seminar and Expo. For complete show details go to www.iddba.org.
