Macrina Bakery & Cafe to open LEED facility

Seattle-based Macrina Bakery & Café celebrated its 15th anniversary by promoting some of its signature products.

The bakery's three locations offered customers a free brown sugar shortbread cookie on Aug. 27. For that week, the bakery also promoted its Giuseppe bread, Macrina's version of a crusty Italian bread, with a promotional price of $2.15 per loaf. Giuseppe bread was reformulated to include Shepherd's Grain flour, which is milled from wheat grown sustainably by farms in eastern Washington.

“Customers have really grown to trust Macrina to be a part of their celebrations and, more importantly, their daily lives,” said Macrina founder, Leslie Mackie. “That's really gratifying.”

During the past 15 years, Mackie has expanded her company from one location to three and expects to open a new LEED-certified production facility and café this month. She also wrote the Macrina Bakery & Café Cook-book, which was published in 2003 and re-issued in paperback in 2006.
