Meijer Supermarkets, Grand Rapids, Mich., has organized a cake department employee reward program, called “The M Games Cake Edition.” The competition is meant to help employees sell more cakes, develop their creativity, increase their productivity and be rewarded for their efforts.
Meijer is judging contestants on customer service, product knowledge, upselling and work habits (clean work area, organization, tools, manual, attire and ingredients). Points will be earned for speed, quality and ability to recreate cakes that match the model cakes in the training manual. The final round of the competition is based on creativity, where contestants will be judged on use of color and originality of design.
The grand prize is $2,000 with first, second and third place contestants winning $500, $350 and $200, respectively. The grand prize winner also will receive a fully paid trip to the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association's expo in Atlanta.
