Minardi Baking Co. closed its Paterson, N.J., operation this month, merging with a larger bakery and relocating to Denville, according to an article on NorthJersey.com.
The Minardi family cited rising operation costs, increased health care premiums and the price of gasoline for its fleet of trucks, among the reasons leading them to merge and relocate. The new company will be known as Anthony and Sons and Minardi Baking Co.
The company will continue to distribute bread with the Minardi brand and recipe to supermarkets–including Pathmark, ShopRite and A&P–and restaurants throughout northern New Jersey.
At its peak in the 1990s, the company baked 15,000 loaves a day and employed two shifts of workers. It went through 50,000 to 60,000 pounds of flour in a week, according to the story.
