Months after selling the family-owned Ukrop’s Super Markets, Richmond, Va., to the Giant-Carlisle division of Ahold USA, which operates Martin’s Food Markets in the area, members of the Ukrop family are back in the food and bakery business, launching Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods, which manufactures several bakery items, including the company’s famous White House rolls and rainbow cookies. Other offerings include coffee cakes, cupcakes, brownies, seasonal cakes, artisan bread, wedding cakes and birthday cakes.
According to a Richmond Times Dispatch report, Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods’ main customer is the very chain that bought them out a few months ago, Martin’s. According to the report, the two companies are in talks for Ukrop’s to supply bakery products to Martin’s nine other Virginia locations.
