It is easy to forget to give employees the kudos they deserve. As Valentine's Day approaches, share the love.
The day of love is quickly approaching and I’m sure you’re all swamped in red and pink and white cookies, cupcakes and decorated cakes. At busy times, or any time really, it can be hard to remember to let your employees know when they’re doing a good job. But they are often your customers’ only contact and are the “face” of your business. Often customers only take the time to point out when an employee didn’t perform or respond according to expectations, but recently I received an email from customers who wanted to pass along kudos to employee for a job well done.
The customer, who is a baker herself, regularly shops one of the Weis Markets locations in Altoona, Pa. She noticed the difference a recent change in the bakery management had on the in-store bakery. In her email to me, she says “What a personal touch she offers. She takes the time to come out from behind the cases and talk to you about your cakes and makes suggestions.” She also noted many new marketing campaigns in the bakery, such as donut of the day and gingerbread making classes for kids during the holidays.
What impressed me was that this employee made such a notable difference in the bakery that a customer took the time to email me because she thought the employee deserved recognition.
So, here’s to you Christi Wroe. One customer, and I’m sure many others, think you have done something really great in the in-store bakery for the Park Hills Plaza location for Weis Markets. (And hopefully, your boss will see this!)
For the rest of you, don’t wait for a customer to make an effort to point out what a great job your employees are doing. Take the initiative yourself and spread the love during this Valentine’s season.
