One of the most interesting displays at this year’s IDDBA Show & Sell Center was the Seeing Double case. From donut holes layered between thinly sliced cake to cooked sausage inside a biscuit dough to sugar cookies baked around Oreo cookies to a whole apple pie baked inside a chocolate cake, nothing seems too bizarre to stuff. A big trend in Europe, layering together two different products is a great way to make the old seem new again.
Split a basic crispy rice treat, add a layer of thinly sliced brownie in between each half and dip the end product in chocolate for a unique blend of textures. Or place a peanut butter cup in the center of peanut butter cookie dough and bake for an extra surprise.
For your more adventurous customers, roll a whole dill pickle inside of your basic croissant dough, or place a whole prebaked apple pie inside a heavier cream cake batter and bake.
Be sure to let customers know what they’re in for by slicing open a few of your creations and displaying them in front. Use attractive, explicit signage on top of the bakery case to call attention to your bakery’s creative use of these everyday products.
