The Retail Bakers of America (RBA) is now accepting portfolio applications for cake decorators looking to compete in the 12th Annual Pillsbury Baker’s Plus Creative Decorating Competition. The decorating competition will be held during the first two days of the All Things Baking show, which takes place in Houston Sept. 9-11, 2012.
Up to 12 contestants will compete for the Pillsbury Bakers Plus championship title in the following categories: flowers and sprays, wedding cake, rolled fondant, custom design cakes, and sculpted cakes.
The highest scoring competitor, as determined by a panel of professional judges, will be awarded the Pillsbury Bakers Plus Grand Champion Trophy. Gold, silver, and bronze medals also will be given out for the highest three scores in each category. All told, more than $14,000 in prize money will be awarded to competitors and their sponsoring bakeries.
All contestants must be RBA members, work full-time or part-time in a cake shop, retail or supermarket bakery and have a minimum of two years’ decorating experience. Contestants are selected by two methods. If they are in an area with a local retail baking affiliate organization, they must compete at their local affiliate contest. If they are in an area without a local affiliate they may enter by portfolio review.
Application forms are available at www.allthingsbaking.org. Application by portfolio must be postmarked by June 30. Contestants will be announced on July 15.
