Former Bread Bakers Guild 2008 Team USA members Peter Yuen and Dara Reimers will be among 24 candidates competing at the Maîtres de la Boulangerie (Bakery Masters) to be held during Europain 2010. The Bakery Masters is composed of former competitors in the Louis Lesaffre Cup or the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie. The competition encompasses three categories — bread, Viennese pastry and artistic design — and will be held every four years during Europain, alternating with the Coupe du Monde. Unlike the Coupe, the Maîtres de la Boulangerie is not a team competition. Instead, individuals will compete against one another for recognition.
Yuen, owner of Pâtisserie P, Chicago, will compete in the Viennese pastry category, and Reimers, owner of The Bread Shack, Auburn, Maine, will compete in artistic design.
“The aim of an individual contest is to unearth the real gems who will represent their trade at an international level,” says Christian Vabret, competition organizer.
