Frederick's Pastries, Amherst, N.H., gets customers and employees amped for the holidays with its annual gingerbread house competition. Each year, Frederick's employees have a friendly competition to build their own completely edible gingerbread house.
“We then combine them all to create a fantastic gingerbread village. This year's theme was fairy tales,” said Frederick's Pastries spokesperson Susan Lozier Robert.
This holiday season, more than 1,400 customers cast their votes for their favorite gingerbread house and Bryson Perkins' Aladdin design won first place. Jennifer Behrens took second with a Snow White design, and Ashley Sexton took third for her Wizard of Oz gingerbread house. The bakery also awarded prizes to twelve customers whose names were drawn from the voter pool.
