Costeaux French Bakery is project central for the Healdsburg Heritage Project: A Tribute to our Past, a $5,000 fundraising drive to restore and preserve our collective northern California past. How many times do you run across a project where you can leave an important legacy as well as TASTE a piece of history…literally?
Tuesday March 1st Costeaux unveils a fascinating exhibit of ten historical, and in some cases hysterically witty, Healdsburgians. The seppia-toned portraits on display were originally produced for the village’s Sesquicenennial Celebration in 2007. Representing area pioneering families, the Enduring Spirits were gathered that year for the momentous 150th birthday party on the downtown Plaza, attended by thousands. The ten Enduring Spirits generously shared their family histories giving us all a glimpse of northern Californnia life in 1857. Their comments are poignant, insightful, and delightful and… on display. Why is Costeaux French Bakery involved? The opening of the bakery wasn’t all that far behind the founding of Healdsburg, historically, first serving fine breads in 1923 to Healdsburg families. The original store, called the French-American Bakery, was located next door to the current shop where the offices of Cyrus Restaurant now reside. The business endured many name changes over the decades, but always maintained top quality products, family-run leadership and a family-friendly ambience. And so it is today with an emphasis on family dining. Thus, the tie in and Costeaux’s dedication to honoring the Enduring Spirits and their families with this project.
Stop in for goodies at the Bakery Counter, a take-out meal, or dine at Café Costeaux at 417 Healdsburg Avenue.
