Sweet Lady Jane bakery, Los Angeles, launched a new line of signature cakes this month at select Ralphs Fresh Fare locations. Beginning with one west Los Angeles location on Feb. 18, the wholesale bakery's signature cakes will be available at ten area Ralphs locations by March 1. Cake varieties include old-fashioned chocolate, red velvet, coconut and imperial lemon and raspberry.
Sweet Lady Jane delivers the finished cakes to the supermarkets and also sells them at its flagship store on Melrose. The West Hollywood bakery was founded by Jane Lockhart in 1988. At Ralphs, 5-in. cakes are priced from $17.99 to $18.99, and 8-in. cakes retail from $29.99 to $31.99.
Lockhart opened a 7,000-sq.-ft. wholesale facility in Los Angeles's Silver Lake neighborhood in 2005. The expanded location with more efficient bakery equipment helped Sweet Lady Jane to meet the increased demand for its products. “Sweet Lady Jane cakes purchased from Ralphs Fresh Fare will be no different than those purchased from our flagship store,” Lockhart said. “We use only the freshest, highest quality ingredients, a liberal use of premium butter and a lot of love.”
